COMMENTARY: North Jersey Casinos Bad for AC

On Nov. 8, voters will be asked whether our state constitution should be amended to allow up to two additional casinos to be built at least 72 miles from Atlantic City — home of the state’s eight casinos. Voters should reject this proposed constitutional amendment.

The electorate is being asked to leave the decision on the location of the casinos to our elected officials. In 1976, voters limited casinos to Atlantic City, and that’s the way it should stay. Opening casinos in North Jersey will have a devastating impact on not only Atlantic City, but also the entire South Jersey region.

Recent history tells us what we can expect if competition is allowed within our own state borders — the cannibalization of gaming revenue and jobs.”
