RELEASE: PRESIDENT OF THE GREATER ATLANTIC CITY CHAMBER – JOE KELLY – ENDORSES TRENTON’S BAD BET

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 8, 2016

As Atlantic City Continues To See Casinos Close & Jobs Disappear, Greater Atlantic Chamber President Opposes Expansion & Makes Voice Heard

Newark, NJ (August 5, 2016) – Joe Kelly of the Greater Atlantic City Chamber in South New Jersey today partnered with Trenton’s Bad Bet to oppose the expansion of casino gaming in North New Jersey. This endorsement echoes the growing number of voices joining the fight against the referendum to expand casino gaming into North New Jersey.

“The Greater Atlantic City Chamber welcomes the support of Trenton’s Bad Bet Coalition as we all work to oppose the expansion of gaming in New Jersey,” said Joe Kelly. “As a member of the No North Jersey Casinos Coalition, we are committed to defeating the ballot question that would allow two casinos in northern New Jersey. Clearly Trenton’s Bad Bet recognizes, as do we, that the expansion of gaming in New Jersey is a losing proposition for the entire state.”

This endorsement comes as Trenton’s Bad Bet continues its outreach to inform voters of a referendum to expand gaming into North New Jersey. Those individuals and groups that have experienced first-hand the outcomes of the State’s poor management and broken promises are especially concerned.

“New Jersey government has a long record of saying one thing and doing another,” said Bill Cortese, executive director of Trenton’s Bad Bet. “Perhaps one of the clearest examples of this is in the area of transportation. Today, thousands of transportation projects are sidelined and communities are at a standstill as our roads and infrastructure continue to go neglected despite Trenton’s promises.”

Trenton’s Bad Bet sites many examples of the State’s mismanagement of funds, including pensions that have been underfunded by as much as 50%, while Wall Street superfunds received nearly $4 billion in pension management fees between 2010 and 2014.
