MAYOR OF HADDONFIELD – JEFF KASKO – ENDORSES TRENTON’S BAD BET JOINING OPPOSITION TO GAMING EXPANSION IN NORTH JERSEY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 4, 2016

Opposing Casino Expansion & Highlighting Issues With Transparency, Mayor Addresses Obvious Preference Given To New York Special Interests Over New Jersey Residents

Newark, NJ – Today, Jeff Kasko, Mayor of Haddonfield endorsed Trenton’s Bad Bet, a group working across the state to oppose the expansion of casino gaming. Concerned with the preference being shown to developers over residents, Mayor Kasko expressed frustration at the lack of detail being provided to residents prior to November’s vote.

“As a mayor, I know firsthand that openness and transparency are key tenets of how to govern,” said Kasko. “However, the special interests promoting casino expansion have been anything but transparent.”

The referendum to expand gaming into North Jersey asks voters to approve the development of casinos 72 miles out of Atlantic City, but stops short of indicating actual locations or even proposing a tax rate that would be required of potential revenues.

“Voters have been left in the dark when it comes to important details of the proposed casino expansion and it is clear why – this expansion puts the needs of New York developers over the needs of New Jersey residents and would cost taxpayers when these casinos fail,” Kasko added.

“Mayor Kasko is another key leader in Camden County who understands how casino expansion is a bad deal from Trenton politicians,” said Trenton’s Bad Bet executive director, Bill Cortese.  “We are happy to welcome Mayor Kasko to our efforts to defeat casino expansion and oppose Question One on Election Day as we know it will cost New Jersey tens of thousands of jobs and result in billions in economic losses.”
