VAST MAJORITY OF NEW JERSEY NEWSPAPERS WEIGHING IN ON CASINO EXPANSION OPPOSE THE REFERENDUM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 6, 2016

The Opposition To Casino Gaming Has Secured Allies Across A Number Of New Jersey’s Biggest News Publications

Newark, NJ – Question One on the November 8 ballot will ask voters to consider altering the state constitution to allow for new casinos to be built in North Jersey. But with most of the state’s news editorials running print in opposition, voters have even more reason to oppose the referendum that was little more than a giveaway to billionaire developers.

“With polls show an overwhelming number of likely voters coming out against Trenton’s special interest handout, editorial boards also weighing in against Question One has only strengthened our support,” said Bill Cortese, executive director of Trenton’s Bad Bet. “More and more of New Jersey is seeing this referendum for the bad bet that it is and we are confident it will be mirrored in their voting against Question One on Election Day.”

Editorial boards opposing the referendum include:

  • Gannett New Jersey
  • Burlington County Times
  • Essex County Politics
  • New York Post
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • Press of Atlantic City
  • The Star-Ledger
